Earlier this year, I’ve discovered a very inspiring Ravelry group for knitters and designers alike: the Designers Challenge group.
Every month a new topic will be posted to design a knitted or crocheted item. It always has
- an object to knit/crochet,
- a theme to follow and
- a technique to use.
At the end of the month, everybody posts their FO (finished object) pictures with a brief explanation to each of the 3 points and a voting thread gets setup for a 2 week voting period. There are even some yarn prices to win!
It’s a great way to finally get your many ideas organized and worked on or to try a new technique so that by month’s end you have a prototype ready for a new pattern. 🙂
Now, make sure that you’ve considered your publication options before you enter a challenge because once you post a picture of your item, lots of book, magazine, or yarn company doors will close as they prefer unpublished designs.
I’ve still found this group to be very inspiring and I’m enjoying seeing all the new, young (underage) designers spread their wings. 🙂
And if your not a knitter, or don’t feel quite confident yet to enter your own creation (all levels are represented) you are most welcome to cast your vote for your favorite entry of the month.
See you there!
